Saltwater Elegy
“For the shores where we left our tears.”
Audio Verse Recitation
Listen to this poem recited with gentle cadence
The tide returns what we threw away,
a driftwood cross, a shell of pearly grey.
The ocean has no mercy in its roar,
it simply washes what is seen no more.
I walked along the cliffs of wind and brine,
and thought of days when you were truly mine.
The seagulls cried above the surging foam,
a solitary hymn of going home.
Rest now, my love, beneath the ancient deep,
where quiet waves will rock your soul to sleep.
I leave my sorrow carved into the sand,
and walk back alone into the quiet land.
